Horseback riding is a sport, but if you want to play the sport to the best of your ability, you have to understand more than just the physical, and, there are a lot of people out there who can translate the physical into written words.  Horseback riding should always start with horsemanship.  The team in horseback riding is horse and rider.  Both need to be in peak condition, both mentally and physically to perform at their best, so the more you know, the better you can achieve those peaks.
